You’re living here and you’ve found the perfect rental, now you need to spend some time furnishing it. The biggest mistake that people make when moving to this city from another country is to try and bring too many things with them. This is especially important if you are going to be moving from the United States or Canada. the local apartments are on a much smaller scale than you are probably be used to and more importantly, kitchens are tiny compared to homes in the USA. This means that you’ll have a struggle trying to fit your appliances into your new  home. That is, if you can get them in the door to start with. Fridges washing machines are best bought once you’re living here so you have a better idea of the size of the appliance you’ll be able to fit inside your new flat. Electrical appliances are not expensive and you’ll save money on shipping costs if you leave your appliances behind in storage and buy new or even second hand ones when you get here. This goes for furniture too. Oversize comfy couches might look lovely in your new home, but the problem will be getting them up the winding staircase to your door. There are many times when people have to hire a crane to get their bed or their lounge suite in through a third story window to manage the move. Rather buy more London scale furniture and save money on hiring a work crew to move your furniture from the states. You’ll probably have to buy some cupboard or wardrobes when you get here anyway as not many apartments come with fitted closets for your clothes. If you’re going to be bringing electronic equipment into the country with you then you’ll have to make sure that you have the right conversion tools to ensure that they work in England. The electricity supply in all countries is very different and you don’t want to risk an electrical fire because you tried to make your X-box work on London power! Living here will be an experience that may take some getting used to, but with a dollop of good humor and a great attitude we’ll make a native Londoner out of you yet!
